Silence

Stilla is a practice of silence in an artistic context. I started this project in the medieval building

Nonneseter klosterkapell in Bergen. The room does not belong to the church but has a sacred

atmosphere that immediately spoke to me. I have explored the space by committing myself to be

there in silence an hour once a week as well as making the room available to the public and

receiving their impressions. To develop the project and explore silence in an artistic context in a

more direct way, Stilla will move from Nonneseter to a few gallery spaces in Bergen during

autumn 2023.

musikk og stillhet is a collaborative project between me and composer Julia Constance Wiger-

Nordås where we explore the impact of silence when encounter with contemporary music. Julias

self-composed pieces of music are regularly performed surrounded by silence in different sacred

spaces in Bergen.
